Diqing Brief

Diqing is an autonomous prefecture in the Yunnan Province of the People's Republic of China. It covers an area of 23,870 square kilometres and has a population of 323,556. This autonomous prefecture has jurisdiction over 2 counties and 1 autonomous county.

Diqing in Tibetan is "lucky place". It had been the main passage where Xizang (Tibetan) people communicate with other nationalities.

Being the position on the border of the Qinghai-Xizang plateau, northern end of southern part of Hengduan Mountain range, therewithal, Jinshajiang and Langcangjiang Rivers across here, Diqing has a unique natural view. Snow Mountains, valleys, grass-lakes, primeval forest and national customs are blended into one. Although, there are 13 kinds of nationalities including Xizang, Han, Naxi, Yi, Bai etc, with a populations of 330000 in Diqing and they have kept their national characteristics, but they live in harmony. The place has strong flavor of national styles.
