To & From Shanghai

Shanghai is the only city in China to possess two important international airports–Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao International Airport. Tourists who prefer to travel by air can easily reach the destination. Besides they can take the airport shuttles to the city center and other scenic places.

Shanghai has three railway stations-Shanghai North Railway Station also called as Xinke Station, Shanghai South Railway Station and Shanghai West Railway Station, all of which play significent roles in the city’s transportation system. Frequent trains can send passengers to major cities of the country namely Nanjing, Suzhou, Beijing, Tianjin, Tibet, Yunnan etc. Therefore Shanghai railways have made great contributions to the distribution of countless travelers to the places they want. Click here to get more detailed information about the ticket price and the specific train numbers.

Within the city, Maglev train is a really good choice as it is the fastest way to get the destination. If you want to experience traveling at more than 400 kilometers an hour, give it a try. A round trip takes less than 15 minutes and a one-way ticket costs 50 yuan. The operation from Longyang Road Station starts at 7a.m. and ends at 9 p.m. at intervals of 15 minutes. While the operation from Pudong lasts from 7:02 a.m. to 9:02 p.m. at the same intervals.

In & Around Shanghai

Subway is another conventient facility which has been greatly dedicated to the city’s transport conditions. As we all know that Shanghai is an international metropolis with a quite fast life pace, thus the traffic problems have always cought people’s attention. After the construction of subways, we can proudly say that the traffic jams during rush hours have been greatly improved.

By now Shanghai has built nine metro lines, covering almost the whole city. One can reach most scenic spots, major shopping centers as well as entertainment grounds by these nine lines. It is the fastest way with high recommendation.

When you use the ticket, do beware of the difference between "interchange" and "transfer". At the interchange stations (e.g. People's Square Station), you don't have to buy a new ticket for changing to another line, but at the transfer ones (e.g. Shanghai Railway Station), you will have to. It is strongly advisable to buy tickets from a ticket vending machine which automatically calculates the fare according to the destination station you specifies.

Bus & Taxi

Although bus is not a good option for travelers during moring and afternoon peaks in such a busy city as Shanghai, it is also treated as an important transport facility of the city. Buses on busy shopping streets or connecting major attractions are in excellent condition actually and during off-peak hours it is a pleasure to ride in them. What's more, the bigger windows of a bus will give you a better view of the city than taking taxis or subways. Click here to get the information about Bus Lines.

In Shanghai, taxi or cab is a transportation facility of great importance. Shanghai's taxis are colorful with cyan, yellow, white, green, blue, red, dark blue and dark red all being the main colors of the taxis, and the colors denote different taxi companies. Around the driver's seat is a transparent shield protect the driver from robbery. A meter and an illuminated vacancy disk on the dashboard are also necessities for a cab. Without all these things, the taxi is probably unlicensed and you should avoid it, even if the driver solicits you. You have no rights if injured in an unlicensed taxi. The vacancy disk will help you know which cab is available. When the disk is upright and illuminated showing two Chinese characters -- 空车 -- it means the cab is vacant.

Starting(minimum) fare: 11RMB /3 kilometers, 2.10 RMB/ per kilometer after the first three kilometers. 3.2 RMB/ per kilometer after the first ten kilometers. No fare will be charged during the waiting period. During the nighttime from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. next morning, starting(minimum) fare will be 14 RMB/ 3 kilometers, 2.7 RMB/ per kilometer after the first three kilometers. And 4.1 RMB/ per kilometer after the first ten kilometers.
