Lijiang travel guide: overview, climate, travel tips

Lijiang is located in the southeast of Qing-Tibet Plateau and in the northwest of Yunnan Province. There are Han, Naxi, Yi, and Lili nationalities, among which different ethnic groups account for 57.4% of the total population. As a result, you can learn different nationality culture. Besides, Lijiang City is an attractive tourist destination in Yunnan Province that is well known for its fresh air, clear streams, breathtaking snow mountains, and an undisturbed landscape.

Lijiang has plateau monsoon climate, so the climate varies according to its elevation and landscapes, which makes weather different all throughout the terrain. July and August are in the rainy season, during which it is the worst time to visit Lijiang. The bad weather will affect your tour badly. The best time to visit Lijiang is from late March through May, as well as from mid-October till November, during which the weather is the most pleasant. If you like snowy scenery, you may visit Lijiangduring January to March. Climbing snow mountains is the one of the top things that must not to be missed if you travel during the winter. The most famous one is Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which is about 15 kilometers to the north of Lijiang City, which is is famous for its precipitous slope and charming beauty. Remember to bring cold-proof clothes in case you climb the high snow mountain or feel chilly at night. Besides, It is highly recommended for you to hire a guide when hiking at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. And proper hiking equipment, enough food and water, sunglasses to prevent snow blindness are necessary. Lastly, bring a binoculars, which is very useful to view the amazing snow scenery. 
 
There are Lijiang ancient town and new city area in Lijiang, among which the Old Town of Lijiang, a UNESCO world heritage site since 1997, is a well-preserved old city with brilliant culture. If you  want to experience the antique beauty of the ancient town, you can find some ancient town inns to live. Anyway if you are not accustomed to the old building, you can go to new city area to find star hotels. As to Lijiang local cuisine, it is known that Lijiang cuisine is said to be a blend of Han and Tibetan styles.
