Beijing Concert Hall grew out of the Central Movie Company and was assigned under the leadership of the Central Musical Company and renamed the current title. After the Great Cultural Revolution, advocated by old leaders and artists, it was rebuilt with the governmental investment in 1978. It had been the acoustically best concert hall in Beijing for a long time.
Now with the total investment of 36.3 million RMB, its renewal project, said architect Liu Shiqiang, mainly focuses on the acoustic enhancement, which will be the key to be the best place for classical music. The pipe organ is kept and a vertically movable piano platform and chorus platform are added to achieve the best sound quality. Furthermore, detailed adjustments are added for best effect with regard to watching angle, seat, box and corridor. The design is a resemblance of a crystal musical box.
