At the northern end of North Sichuan Road of Hongkou District, Shanghai, there is L-shaped small road-Duolun Road. The Sunset Bell Tower at the corner is newly rebuilt but still remains its original style of primitive simplicity and it witnessed the vicissitudes of entire road. As its name suggests, ”Sunset Bell Tower” helps us pick up the memories of those Chinese intellectuals.
Every corner of this street seems to be filled with eternal flavor of ink and books. In 1920s and 1930s, a group of eminent writers and scholars, including Lu Xun , Mao Dun, Guo Moruo, Ye Shengtao, Qu Qiubai, Ding Ling, Rou Shi,Shen Junru, Shi Liang, Wang Zaoshi and Uchiyama Kanzo, were attracted to live here. The establishing ceremony of China’s “league of Leftist Writers” was also held here. Now, this important place for Chinese modern literature has grown into a refined cultural zone, a street of “cultural Relics and Antiques”. New and famous name like Phoenix Pavilion, Wen Bo Hall, 300 Inkstone Studio, Literary Family, Hongwen Bookstore, Gongfei Café, are close to each other. A dozen display halls of collected antiques and cultural relics are shoeing off their titbits.
